That's a Wrap for Weekend #2!!

You would be amazed at how big an empty high cube storage container actually feels when you're inside of it.... That's really all I could think about as we pulled all 250 grow towers out of our container this past week. More so than that, you would be amazed by the indescribable feeling of being inside of it, looking at the amount of work (physically hard, less than favorable temperatures,ect.) sitting in front of you and feeling nothing but pure excitement for every second that is coming, so much so that you stay up until the early morning hours working towards this little idea, this tiny little dream that you and the person beside you share,

If you have ever lived in a home with a well as your water source and had to sanitize it, you will likely know how we are preparing our farm for planting. The general rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon of bleach per 1 gallon of cool water to sanitize followed by a somewhat tedious rinse. We would have loved to simply use vinegar and water but we needed to ensure that every little crevasse of this baby was free of all fungus and bacteria that may have been able to grow in our medians and possible gotten anywhere that the water flows... which is basically everywhere. Our system recycles the water it uses by cycling the water from the two primary water tanks (one for the seedlings and the big one which waters all of the plants) and by doing so allows us to lower our daily water use to roughly 5 gallons a day to feed what can at any point in time be upwards of 5,000 plants at different stages of growth. Needless to say, sanitation is a high priority for our little farm.

AND... This is only the start of the work on the inside! We always have so much fun on these little "weekend getaways" where we have fires and camp out at the little pond on our site and not only do we get to spend all the time we can working towards our little dream but we also get to spend it together. We have terrible cell reception and we blast music, dance, laugh and lean on each other when the heat, or the smoke, or just the sleepiness that comes from a honest days work gets to us. We enjoy every second that we get to spend away, fully emerged in our leafy dreams. We feel so blessed to be able to do this together! We jumped into this journey hand in hand, knowing that this was going to be as educational as it was to be challenging but somehow knowing that we are doing this together, blood sweat and tears included, makes even the most anxiety inducing moments of this experience so much better, we hope that you can all see how special we believe this little farm of ours will be and we are just so grateful to share our story with all of you along the way!
