We have been busy finalizing seed selections, gathering nutrients, testing the PH of our water source, and trying to keep our excitement at least somewhat at bay (we're doing our best!!!) as we count down the final days until we finally get to bring our almost perfect storage container farm home! To finish off the site...

We have Gravel!!!

We had 2 glorious loads of gravel delivered this afternoon so this evening we went down and after a quick lesson from the master himself (AKA my dad) Nick, being the perfect student he, spent a couple of hours spreading the gravel out and smoothing it out so we have a nice little spot for the for the farm to call home!

As much as I (Amy) wanted to be able to help with this part, the tractor work is more of a 1 man job and we certainly don't need 2 perfectionists battling over how even the gravel is or how thick we think it needs to be. Plus I just love watching Nick slip into his new found happy place as a farmer so I was more than happy to watch, spend time with family and make dinner for everyone. Plus, my hard work is still yet to come. Once we have the farm cleaned up and looking pretty, I get to start planting!!

Spending this much time in Lacona, closer to some of the people we love the most in the world and building this dream together somehow manages to make us feel closer to all of the people we love. Maybe it's because of how much we love being able to share this experience with you! Our family and friends, old ones and new ones all over the country can follow along and we want everyone to feel like they are a part of our leafy dreams too, or maybe, it's because it makes us feel more connected, to each other, to our ever growing community (our FB page hit 85 followers yesterday!) and to everything from the roots in the ground to the stars in the sky. Even if we are only 2 people trying to do our part to be more sustainable (our stage container uses roughly 5% of the water consumption of traditional farming) and our part to do what we can to try and help our with the food securities that so many people are facing. We can produce roughly 2,500 plants at a time in our 300 sq.ft. footprint with another up to 2500 starting as seedlings to take the place of their predecessors when it's time to harvest. This little dream of ours is something we feel really good about doing and we truly hope you tag along with us for a very, very long time! We owe so much of how far we've come so far to all of you and for that, we feel truly blessed.

Stay leafy, friends!
